A New Standard in the 200 – 300 HP Class: The Fendt 700 Vario Gen 7.1

If you’ve been running a Fendt 700 Vario for the last few years, you already know why it’s the best-selling tractor in the lineup. The Gen7.1 update doesn’t mess with that formula — it sharpens it. More power on tap when you need it, a new engine built for the long haul, and a cab that makes a 12-hour day feel a lot shorter.

Here’s what’s actually new, and why it matters for the work you’re doing.

The 700 Vario Gen7.1 comes in five models — the 720, 722, 724, 726, and 728 — ranging from 203 to 283 rated horsepower. Need more? Fendt DynamicPerformance adds up to 20 extra horsepower on demand, pushing the flagship 728 up to 303 hp when your hydraulics, PTO, or auxiliary systems are asking for it. That power shows up automatically, without you touching a lever or watching your ground speed.

The lineup isn’t just powerful on paper, either. The Gen7 platform was named Farm Machine 2023, and the 728 Vario took home Tractor of the Year 2023 — independent recognition from judges who put these tractors through real work, not just a spec sheet.

The headline change is the all-new AGCO Power CORE75 engine — a 7.5-liter, 6-cylinder diesel that’s part of an entirely new engine family built with tomorrow’s fuels in mind, including compatibility with renewable HVO diesel. Paired with Fendt’s iD low-speed concept, the engine runs at a nominal 1,700 RPM, which means more torque, lower fuel burn, and less wear over the life of the machine.

The cooling system got smarter too. The Concentric Air System uses an independent hydrostatic fan drive that pulls up to 40% less power than a standard fan — power that goes straight back into the job instead of spinning a fan blade.

The stepless VarioDrive CVT transmission covers the entire working range — from 65 ft/hr up to 31 mph — without a single gear change. That’s the difference between babying a tractor through a delicate seeding pass and opening it up on the road to the next field, all without breaking stride. Add in VarioGrip tire pressure control adjusting on the go and Fendt Stability Control managing side lean at speed, and you’ve got a tractor that’s as composed on the highway as it is in the field.

Hydraulics and Hitch Built for Big Iron

Running demanding implements takes more than a strong engine. The 700 Vario Gen7.1 delivers up to 58 GPM of hydraulic flow with up to five rear remotes (plus front and center options on Profi and Profi+ trims), a rear lift capacity of nearly 24,730 lbs, and an optional front hitch adding another 11,900+ lbs. Whatever you’re pulling, pushing, or lifting, there’s capacity to spare.

A Cab Worth Spending the Day In

The VisioPlus cab gives you a 77° continuous field of vision, front and rear cameras for safer coupling and maneuvering, and a premium seat option with heating, cooling, massage, and memory settings. Pair that with the FendtONE operating system — a standard 10″ dashboard, dual 12″ displays, and an optional retractable roof terminal — and you’ve got a fully connected workstation that runs the same in the cab as it does from the office.

New machines also come with Fendt Gold Star Customer Care: three years or 3,000 hours of full-machine coverage, zero deductible, all parts and labor for factory-recommended maintenance, and a loaner tractor if we can’t get you back up and running within 48 working hours. Need more runway? Gold Star+ extends that same coverage out to five years or 5,000 hours.
